Lab Automation Engineer | System Integration
The Lab Automation Engineer will work as part of the Automation Engineering Team developing, validating, implementing, optimizing, and supporting liquid handling instruments for our commercial laboratories.
The successful candidate will have expertise in designing and building integrated platforms. The Lab Automation Engineer will understand and apply V-model engineering approach to design automation methods and contribute to improving automation practices and procedures.
A successful Lab Automation Engineer will recognize projects in the context of the overall process and be integral to their success by taking a cross-functional leadership role in providing automation expertise from project conception to its completion.
Develop high throughput automation processes with concepts of cost reduction, turnaround time optimization, and human-robot interaction minimization
Procure, develop and validate automation components for system integration
Design, develop, and build integrated automation platforms for improved usability and serviceability
Provide service support for NGS equipment and liquid handling instruments, including troubleshooting, routine maintenance and calibration
May act as a mentor/supervisor to Automation Associates
Provide training to users for new methods, new user training, and for entry level Automation Associates
BA/BS in Molecular Biology, Engineering or Life Science
A minimum 5 years of experience in developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing liquid handling (Agilent VWorks, Hamilton Venus, Beckman FX) and other automated instrumentation
In depth knowledge in automated nucleic acids extraction and NGS library preparation processes
Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment. Including the following; design control, performing verification and validation studies and experience with process development
Experienced in complex system integration, robotic arms, and automation scheduling software (Overlord, GreenButtonGo, Momentum, Cellario, etc.)
Understanding of laboratory information management system and requirement in CLIA, CAP, and FDA accredited lab
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in a MS Office, general purpose programming languages (e.g. VB/VBA/VBS, Python, Perl, R, C++/C#), and NGS related software and computational tools
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; experience writing technical reports strongly preferred
Ability and desire to work in a team environment supporting both manufacturing operations and regulated diagnostic laboratories
