Sr. Research Associate, Immunoassays

  • This position will support the Research team efforts on developing immunoassays, mAb characterization, and biomarker research/discovery.
  • This includes supporting lab activities, day-to-day bench work, participating in evaluation of new technologies, and providing clearly communicated analysis of these activities.
  • The associate will work with a diverse team of scientists and will be directly involved in novel research initiatives and immunoassay development.
  • Common areas of research activity could include immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and will vary depending on the needs of the group.
  • This is a mid-level position with the intent of building on a strong analytical and quantitative foundation to support the group and expand laboratory skills.

  • Assist in and carryout research towards immunoassay development and biomarker research/discovery.
  • Perform experiments to support characterization of Ab molecules or recombinant proteins. Analyze results and interprets data.
  • Takes directions well but can also independently execute on experiments with minimal oversight.
  • Able to review literature and develop understanding of project background.
  • Ability to integrate and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Interact closely with internal working groups or other departments (technical development, purchasing, laboratory support, etc.).
  • Propose and execute on scientific methods for experiments.
  • Analyze antibody specificity, running immunoassays, and or equipment for routine laboratory work eg. analysis by ELISAs, Western Blot and SDS-PAGE, Flow cytometry etc and cell based or bead based assays.
  • Assists in recombinant protein and antibody purification and characterization. Experience in light scattering analysis, and biomolecular interaction analysis a plus.
  • Comfortable working with laboratory equipment and automating process to efficiently use lab time.
  • The successful candidate will be able to employ a diverse array of immunological assays and analytical tools to address biological questions. Support immunological studies and discovery projects
  • Due to the nature of the work, some weekend work is a possibility and must be willingly supported in order to maintain project time lines.
  • Other lab related duties including: detailed, accurate record keeping, maintaining lab equipment and laboratory supplies and working with glassware support staff.
  • Prepare research/technical reports, process data for presentations, documentation and / or technical drafts
  • Serve as Research representative for cross functional team such as Health, Safety and Environment.
  • Preparation and ordering of experimental components and supplies ahead of experimentation and as requested.
  • Travel may be required.
  • 6-9 years research experience in a laboratory setting and pharmaceutical/ biotech experience a plus.
  • Immunology work experience and theoretical and working knowledge of scientific principles with critical analytical skills
  • Strong technical experience in various immunoassays/techniques including ELISA, Western blot, flowcytometry/FACS and fluorescence-cell based or bead based assays etc.
  • Strong skills in immunoassay development. Experience in assaying from serum/plasma and/or whole blood with working knowledge on screening and diagnostic assay principles highly desirable.
  • Reliability for executing extended scientific protocols. Strong ability to analyze, interpret and present scientific data.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Good presentation skills and able to articulate findings to various levels to management.
  • Trouble shooting skills required. Willingness to learn, develop or adopt new experimental skills as needed is essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS-Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in research and analytical software and other applications is plus.
  • Previous co-authorship on scientific journal articles/ patents a plus.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills extending beyond excel is a plus.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with technical and quantitative skills in addition to basic bench skills.
  • Minimum Bachelor s degree and or Master s degree preferred in Biology or specific life science disciplines such as Immunology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or other closely related fields.
