The contractor in this position will work as part of the Molecular, Expression and Screening Technologies Group within the client's Biologics-Research. The successful candidate will provide Molecular Biology support to all Immunology ACE projects. The recombinant plasmids generated by the successful candidate will be used by ACE project teams for target validation, protein production, assay development, structural biology and compound/antibody evaluation. In addition, the scientist will construct recombinant plasmids for the expression of recombinant proteins or antibodies using the automated protein expression and purification (PEPP) system as requested by ACE project teams.
This person must have strong molecular biology skills with demonstrated experience in cloning of known genes as well as cloning of unknown ortholog genes from species such as cynomolgus monkey. The scientist in this position must have the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems in which initiative and judgment are required. The ability to work in a collaborative team environment and to communicate effectively both within the immediate group or project team and across groups is essential.
Required are molecular biology skills such as cDNA synthesis from mRNA, PCR primer design, PCR amplification from cDNA and plasmid templates, agarose gel electrophoresis, knowledge of Invitrogen s Gateway technology, DNA purification, DNA sequencing and sequence analysis as well as site-directed mutagenesis. Experience with mammalian cell cultures and/or expression and purification of antibodies using mammalian cells is desired.
BS or MS in biology or related field and 1-2 years of experience in a research laboratory or a pharmaceutical company.
